Encyclopedia of Crystals by Judy Hall is a wonderful reference book for learning to identify and use crystals in your everyday life. The introduction covers the history and basic shapes and geometric forms. It also has a small section on Cleansing, Activating and Maintaining your crystals as well as a brief section on the Chakras.
The book is broken down into sections by colors and a special section for Combination crystals. In short it is just full of the information you will need to make your crystal journey pleasurable.
